Find the laptop that fits your life.
Plain-English guidance on what actually matters, then the right machine for study, work, creating or gaming.

It begins with what you'll actually do
Pick the closest match. Each one jumps to what to look for and the laptops we'd recommend.
Any laptop comes down to five things
Get these right and the rest is detail. Here's each one in plain English, and exactly what to aim for.
Processor (CPU) — the brain
Handles everything you do. Higher tiers juggle more at once and power through heavier tasks. Intel now runs Core 3 / 5 / 7 plus premium Core Ultra (with a built-in AI engine); AMD runs Ryzen 3 / 5 / 7 / 9. Bigger number, more power.

Memory (RAM) — your desk space
How much your laptop can keep open and juggle at once. More RAM means more browser tabs, apps and documents running smoothly side by side without slowing down.
Storage — space and speed
Where your files, photos and apps live. Modern laptops use an SSD (fast, silent, no moving parts), and the quickest type is NVMe. Older spinning HDDs only turn up in bargain or huge-capacity machines.
SSD
Boots in seconds, opens apps instantly, durable. What you want.
HDD
Cheaper per GB but slow and fragile. Fine only as bulk storage.
Graphics (GPU) — visuals and gaming
Integrated graphics (built into the CPU) handle browsing, video, streaming and light photo edits — that's most people. A discrete graphics card (its own chip and memory, like NVIDIA GeForce RTX) is what you need for serious gaming, video editing and 3D.

Display — what you look at all day
Resolution sets the sharpness: Full HD is the standard and best for battery, 2.5K / QHD is the sweet spot for creators, 4K mainly for pro photo and video. OLED panels add deep blacks and vivid colour; a higher refresh rate (120Hz+) makes everything feel smoother.
The new must-have: laptops that run AI on-device
A growing number of laptops now carry an NPU — a dedicated chip for artificial intelligence. It runs AI features right on the laptop instead of the cloud, which means they work faster, more privately and with far better battery life. Models that clear Microsoft's bar earn the Copilot+ PC badge.
Look for Intel Core Ultra, AMD Ryzen AI or Snapdragon X — the silicon behind today's Copilot+ PCs.

Study & college
For notes, research, essays and streaming between lectures. The goal is something light you can carry all day, that lasts on battery, and that doesn't cost the earth.

Work & business
For spreadsheets, calls, dozens of tabs and the odd late night. You want it quick and dependable, with enough memory that it never makes you wait.

Create
For photo, video, design and music. Here the screen matters as much as the power — you want accurate colour, plenty of memory and a fast drive for big files.

Play & gaming
A gaming laptop is a different machine. On top of a strong processor, three things decide how well it plays.
