The WTH85225IE is Bosch's Series 4 heat pump tumble dryer, a white freestanding machine rated for 8 kg loads in a standard 60 cm space. Heat pump drying recirculates warm air rather than venting it, so there is no hose to run outside and no window to leave open, which makes it workable in a flat or an internal utility room.

Auto Dry is the feature that earns its keep. Rather than running for a set time, the programme finishes when the load reaches the dryness level you selected, so cotton comes out ready to fold instead of over-dried. Alongside it, the Sensitive Drying System and a stainless steel drum handle fabrics gently, and a fine-tuning control lets you nudge the drying level up or down to taste.

What heat pump drying changes

A heat pump dryer reuses the heat it has already generated instead of throwing it away, which is why it draws only 600 watts and finishes an eco cycle at 1.38 kWh. It also means no ducting: the moisture removed from your clothes is condensed and collected in a container you empty, or piped to a drain if you would rather not think about it. The trade-off is a longer cycle, at 3:25 for a full eco load.

Programmes for real laundry

Beyond cotton and easy care, the programme list covers woollens, mixed loads, towels, sportswear, shirts and blouses, and delicates, plus timed warm and timed cold options when you want to control the length yourself. Super Quick 40 is there for smaller loads. Low heat and reduced ironing are available as options, and a reload function lets you open the door mid-cycle to add the sock you found under the bed.
