The Series 4 SMS4EKI06G is the sensible full-size dishwasher: 13 place settings, a class B energy rating and a brushed steel front treated to resist fingerprints, which matters on a door that gets opened with wet hands several times a day. It stands 84.5cm high with a removable worktop, so it can go freestanding or built under.
Inside, VarioFlex baskets, a three-stage Rackmatic top basket, a knife rack and a moveable cutlery basket in the lower rack let the space be rearranged around the load. Six programmes cover everything from Eco at 50 degrees to Intensive at 70, and Home Connect over WLAN adds remote starting and two extra app functions.

A place setting is a plate, a bowl, a glass and cutlery, so 13 of them is the dinner dishes for a family plus the pans that produced them. VarioFlex baskets adjust to suit, six foldable plate racks split between the two baskets drop flat for casseroles, and the Rackmatic top basket moves through three heights to make room for tall glasses above or a stockpot below. A knife rack in the top basket keeps blades laid flat rather than pointing upward in a cutlery basket.

Eco at 50 degrees is the reference cycle at 9 litres and 3 hours 35 minutes and suits most loads. Auto adapts between 45 and 65 degrees when the load is mixed, Intensive at 70 tackles roasting tins, and Express at 65 turns a load around quickly. Silence at 50 drops the machine to 41dB. A Favourite slot stores your usual choice, and four options, Extra Dry, Half Load, SpeedPerfect+ and Remote Start, adjust whichever programme is running.

The machine measures 84.5 by 60 by 60cm with a 30mm removable worktop and adjustable feet with 20mm of travel, so it can sit freestanding or slide under a counter. Depth with the door open at 90 degrees is 115.5cm, worth checking in a narrow kitchen. Considerations
