The SMS4EMW06G is the Series 4 freestanding machine at its most useful size: 84.5 by 60 by 60 cm, fourteen place settings, finished in white. It suits families and anyone who cooks properly, because the baskets are built around real loads rather than a neat photograph of matching plates and glasses.
Flexibility comes from the VarioFlex baskets. Cutlery moves to a VarioDrawer on the third level, the top basket adjusts through three Rackmatic heights, and six racks fold flat across the two baskets. Efficient Dry and the heat exchanger finish the load, while the B energy rating reflects 65 kilowatt hours per 100 Eco cycles.

How the third level changes loading
In a conventional dishwasher the cutlery basket sits in the lower rack and takes up space that pots want. The VarioDrawer moves knives, forks and serving spoons to a shallow drawer above the top basket, where they lie flat and get a proper wash. The lower basket is then free for casserole dishes, and four folding racks lie down to make room for them.
Quiet enough for an open-plan room
Forty-two decibels is a level you notice only when the kitchen is otherwise silent. Silence 50 takes it to 41 decibels for evenings when the room doubles as a sitting room, and the delay timer can push a full machine 3, 6 or 24 hours into the future. Between them, there is rarely a reason to leave dishes stacked on the worktop overnight.

Eco 50 earns the B rating: 65 kilowatt hours per 100 cycles, 9.0 litres of water per cycle, three hours thirty-five minutes per run. It is the programme to leave selected, because lower temperatures and a longer cycle are what keep both figures down. When time is short, SpeedPerfect+ shortens the wash, Half Load suits a partly full machine, and Express 65 turns a light load around. Drying is handled by Efficient Dry with the heat exchanger.
