How to choose a robot mower, solar camera or garden speaker
From the product descriptions and our buying guides.
Measure the lawn, then check slopes and gaps
Each robot mower gives a maximum lawn area, and our robot lawnmower buying guide advises choosing one with a little headroom over the size of your lawn. Then look at the layout. The eufy E15 handles slopes of up to 40% (18°), the Ecovacs GOAT O800 fits through passages as narrow as 0.7 m to reach other parts of the garden, and the Dreame A1 Pro maps up to 70 m away with 3D LiDAR and steers around obstacles as it mows.
Pick a camera by what it covers and where it records
Pan-and-tilt cameras cover more ground from one spot: the eufy SoloCam S340 gives a 360° view, the eufyCam C37 pans 360° and tilts 90°, and the Tapo TC50 pans 338° for full 360° coverage. The Tapo C410 and C460 kits look across 125° and 134° (diagonal). For recordings, the Tapo C410 and TC50 take microSD cards up to 512 GB and the eufyCam C37 up to 256 GB, while the eufy S340 stores footage locally with no monthly fee.
Check the IP rating before anything stays outside
Our garden speaker guide suggests at least IPX4 for the garden and IP67 if a speaker might end up by a pool or on a beach. The JBL Flip 7, Charge 6 and Xtreme 5 go further at IP68, which covers dust and immersion in water. The Govee solar string lights are IP67, sealed against rain and a hose-down. For sound outdoors, the guide says to lift a speaker onto a table or wall, where sound travels further.
Keep spare blades and trimmer line to hand
Robot mower blades wear with use, and replacing them keeps the cut clean. The Ecovacs GOAT Replacement Blade Kit holds cutting blades and stainless steel mounting screws for the GOAT A-Series, O-Series, G1 and GX, and needs no special tools. On the GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO, the TrueEdge trimmer cuts along flowerbeds and paths; its trimmer kit brings a new trimmer head and line, and the nylon line is also sold on its own.
Good to know
Will I have to bury a wire round the lawn?
No. The Ecovacs GOAT O600 and O800 find their way by RTK positioning, the GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO and Dreame A1 Pro by LiDAR, and the eufy E15 and E18 by cameras. Each one is set up without a perimeter wire and is controlled from its own app.
Which robot mower suits the size of my lawn?
Match your lawn to the mower's maximum area. The Ecovacs GOAT O600 covers up to 600 m², the GOAT O800 and eufy E15 up to 800 m², and the GOAT O1200 LiDAR PRO and eufy E18 up to 1,200 m². The GOAT O800 mows 140 to 180 m² of it an hour.
Can a robot mower keep working in the rain?
The Ecovacs GOAT O800, Dreame A1 Pro and eufy E15 and E18 are rated IPX6; for the E18, a downpour mid-cut is not a problem. The GOAT O600 is built to handle Irish rain and humidity. The eufy E15 heads back to its base by itself when rain or low light sets in.
Can a solar camera go where there is no Wi-Fi or socket?
Yes. The eufy SoloCam S340, eufyCam C37 and eufy 4G LTE Cam S330 and the Tapo TC50, C460 and C410 kits charge from a solar panel, so no socket is needed. Where Wi-Fi doesn't reach, the S330 connects over 4G LTE and switches between 4G and Wi-Fi by itself.
Which Kärcher pressure washer suits a patio?
Both the K3 EcoBooster and the K4 Power Control Flex are made for patios. The K4 applies detergent with Kärcher's Plug 'n' Clean system and has a telescopic handle for moving and storing it; the K3 is lightweight and compact, so it is easy to move and store.
Can I link JBL speakers together?
Yes. The JBL Flip 7, Charge 6 and Xtreme 5 have Auracast, which pairs each one with other compatible JBL speakers when one is not loud enough for the garden. The Xtreme 5 also has ambient edge lighting for after dark, and the Charge 6 can share its battery with a phone.
