In short
For weak home Wi-Fi, start with the size of the house. A Deco mesh system spreads one network through it; the M4 and X1500 3-packs are rated for three to five bedrooms. A Wi-Fi 6 or 7 router adds speed, a powerline kit uses up to 300m of mains wiring, and an extender repeats the signal into one room.

Two or three Deco units make one network, so a phone moves from room to room without dropping off.
Match the pack to the house: the Deco X10 2-pack is rated for two to four bedrooms, a single X50 for one to three. The M4 is AC1200, the X10 and X1500 AX1500 Wi-Fi 6, and the X50 AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 with 160MHz channels.

Wi-Fi 5, 6 and 7 routers, plus the VR400 with a VDSL/ADSL modem inside to replace the provider's box.
Match the coverage rating to the house: two bedrooms for the Archer C50, two to three for the AX12, three for the AX55 and four for the BE550, which has six antennas.

Routers that take a SIM, for a home without a fixed line or as a backup when broadband drops.
Compare the antennas, ports and Wi-Fi. The Archer MR600 and MR515 are Cat6 4G+ routers with two detachable LTE antennas and gigabit ports; the TL-MR100 has 10/100 ports and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi; the M7350 is a battery hotspot for a day out.

Adapters that carry the network over the mains wiring to a room the router does not reach.
Decide what you need at the far socket. The PA7017 and PA8010P give one gigabit port, the WPA7517 adds dual-band Wi-Fi, and the WPA4220 kits add 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and two ports.

Plug one in halfway between the router and the dead spot; they differ in speed, ports and antennas.
Compare speed and reach. The TL-WA850RE is N300 with two internal antennas, the RE200 dual-band AC750 with three internal ones, and the RE315 dual-band AC1200 with two external antennas.

From the TP-Link product descriptions.
A range extender repeats the router's signal from a socket halfway to the weak spot, so it suits one back bedroom or a garden office. A Deco mesh system replaces the router's single signal with two or more units on one network that hand devices between them, so a phone keeps the same connection from room to room. Where several rooms are weak, mesh is the tidier fix.
With powerline, the house's mains wiring links the router to the far room. The rated speed follows the standard: AV600 on the WPA4220 kits, up to 1000Mbps on the AV1000 PA7017 and WPA7517, and up to 1300Mbps on the PA8010P. For a larger house, the WPA4220 3-unit kit puts Wi-Fi in two rooms from one adapter at the router. Traffic over the wiring is protected by 128-bit AES encryption on the PA7017 and PA8010P.
On a VDSL or ADSL phone line, the Archer VR400 can replace the provider's box, since the modem is built in; it supports VDSL up to profile 17a with G.vector and has four gigabit ports. The Wi-Fi 7 Archer BE230 has a 2.5Gbps WAN port and a 2.5Gbps LAN port, for wired connections above gigabit. The Archer NX200 takes its connection from a 5G nano SIM or, if you prefer, over Ethernet WAN.
An AC1200 router such as the Archer C50 reaches 867Mbps on 5GHz. Wi-Fi 6 lifts that to 1201Mbps on the Archer AX12 and 2402Mbps on the AX55. Wi-Fi 7 adds Multi-Link Operation, so a device can use several bands at once: the dual-band BE230 reaches up to 3600Mbps, and the tri-band BE550 5760Mbps on 6GHz, with 320MHz channels for the devices that can take them.
Two wall sockets: one for the adapter beside the router and one in the room you want connected; the mains wiring carries the network between them. Pairing takes one button press on the PA7017 and PA8010P, and the PA8010P has a 16A passthrough socket, so you keep the wall outlet.
Yes, with a SIM and a data plan it works as a home router with no phone line. The TL-MR100, MR515 and MR600 also support WAN failover, so they can sit behind a fixed line and take over if it drops.
Yes, the Deco X50 1-pack is sold for that: it joins an existing Deco network to reach the room the network misses. It can also run on its own as the router in a one to three bedroom home, with HomeShield security built in.
Yes, with Wi-Fi Clone. The WPA7517 copies your existing network name and password at a press, and the WPA4220 kits copy the existing network's settings the same way, so phones and laptops can join in the far room without new settings.
Yes, with a router that has a VPN server built in. The Archer AX12 and AX55 have OpenVPN and PPTP servers, and the Deco X50 and Archer BE550 support more protocols, WireGuard included on the BE550, for reaching home securely. The AX55, BE550 and Deco X50 also have a VPN client.
