See monitorsIn short
Build a home desk around the laptop's USB-C port: one hub links the monitor, keyboard, mouse and webcam through a single cable. The TP-Link UH5020C hub has a 100-watt Power Delivery port, so the laptop charges through it, and the 27-inch Xiaomi A27i monitor runs at 100Hz.
Monitors and arms
A 27-inch screen, a 34-inch ultrawide for two documents side by side, and arms that clamp to the desk.
Compare the stand and the inputs. The A27i tilts and has one HDMI 2.0 and one DisplayPort 1.4 input; the G34WQi adjusts for height, swivel and tilt and has two of each. The A27i, G24i and G34WQi each take a VESA 75 x 75mm arm.

How to set up a desk for working from home
From the product descriptions and our guides.
Screen size follows the work
Our monitor guide puts 24 to 27 inches as the size for most desks, with 32 to 34 inches or an ultrawide for more workspace, and says 60Hz is fine for office work. The 27-inch Xiaomi A27i is a Full HD IPS screen; the 34-inch G34WQi is a curved 3440 x 1440 ultrawide that holds two full documents side by side. Our home office guide says to set the screen at eye level, and a Groov-e arm clamps to the desk edge and lifts the screen off the desk.
One USB-C cable can run the whole desk
A hub connects a thin laptop to the monitor, a keyboard receiver and a webcam through one USB-C port. The TP-Link UH5020C has an HDMI output for the monitor, a USB-C data port and two USB-A. The UH9120C adds gigabit Ethernet for a wired connection, SD and microSD card readers and a third USB-A. The Groov-e 5-port hub is plug and play, with HDMI, three USB-A and a USB-C port.
For calls, compare the microphones
Noise cancelling quietens what you hear; the mics decide how you sound. The Sony WH-CH730N picks up your voice with beamforming mics and AI processing, and a wind noise reduction design helps outdoors. The Sennheiser Accentum Plus has a four-microphone system and the JBL Tune 780NC a two-mic call system. The Sony and the soundcore Space One can also be used with a cable. For video calls, the Groov-e 1080p webcam mounts on a monitor.
The paperwork decides the printer
If you scan or copy letters and forms of several pages, a document feeder saves placing each original on the glass by hand. The Epson WF-2930DWF has a 30-sheet feeder that scans one side of each page at a time, and it faxes. The HP OfficeJet 9120e also has a document feeder and faxes. The Epson ET-2950 and HP Smart Tank 5105 scan on a flatbed. Our printer guide suggests a Wi-Fi all-in-one for a home office, so phones and laptops can print.
Good to know
Can a laptop charge through a USB-C hub?
Yes, if the hub has a Power Delivery pass-through port and the laptop's charger plugs into it. The TP-Link UH5020C and UH9120C each have a 100-watt Power Delivery port, so the laptop charges through the hub while it runs the monitor. The Anker PowerExpand 8-in-1 and Anker 332 pass through up to 85 watts.
Which headphones connect to a laptop and a phone at the same time?
The Sony WH-CH730N, JBL Tune 780NC, Sennheiser Accentum Plus and soundcore Space One list multipoint Bluetooth, so a call can come in on either device. The Sony switches between them automatically, and the JBL holds two devices over Bluetooth 6.0. The Sennheiser uses Bluetooth 5.2 and the soundcore Bluetooth 5.3.
Should I buy an ink tank printer or one with cartridges?
An ink tank suits regular printing. The Epson ET-2950 and HP Smart Tank 5105 refill from bottles, and the ET-2950's included ink is rated for up to 8,500 black and 6,500 colour pages. The Epson WF-2930DWF takes four separate 604 cartridges, standard or XL, so you replace just the colour that has run out. The HP OfficeJet 9120e comes with a 3-month HP ink subscription.
Can I run two monitors from one laptop?
Yes, through a hub with two video outputs. The Anker PowerExpand 8-in-1 has two HDMI ports and runs two screens at 4K 30Hz; the TP-Link hubs and the Anker 332 have one HDMI port each. The Groov-e dual arm carries two monitors from a single desk clamp, and Xiaomi sizes the 23.8-inch G24i for a dual-screen set-up.
Will the Xiaomi A27i fit on a monitor arm?
Yes, on an arm that takes a VESA 75 x 75mm mount: the A27i is VESA ready and weighs 3.6kg with its base. The Groov-e single and dual arms are steel and clamp to the desk edge; check their VESA pattern and weight limit with Groov-e before ordering.
