How to choose massage and recovery kit
From the product descriptions.
Pick a massage gun by its speeds and heads
More speeds give finer steps between a light and a firm setting. The Hypervolt 2 has 3 percussion speeds; the Hypervolt 2 Pro has 5, set on a digital dial; the FIZFIT Elite 2 has 5, up to 3,200 percussions a minute. Heads change the contact point. The Hypervolt 2 comes with a fork, ball, cushion, flat and bullet head. The FIZFIT heads include a round head for larger muscles such as the quads or calves, a dual head for the shoulders and a pinpoint head for trigger points.
A wrap, a pad or a roller works without holding a gun
A wearable is secured to the body with heat and vibration built in. The Venom 2 Shoulder is a neoprene wrap with a silicone surface, and it is side-specific: the Venom 2 Shoulder Right fits the right shoulder and is not a universal left or right wrap. The Venom Go is a small magnetic pod on a reusable adhesive pad. The Vyper 3 is a contoured foam roller with a 34W motor and rubber bands that help hold it in place, and runs up to 2 hours per charge. Hypervolt owners can add warmth with the Heated Head instead.
Normatec compression is a system you can build on
The Normatec 3 Legs is the full kit: a control unit, hose and two leg attachments, with ZoneBoost for extra time and pressure on one zone. The same control unit runs the Hip Attachment, which covers the quads, hamstrings, IT bands, glutes and lower back, and the Arm Attachments, from hand to shoulder. The Lower Legs works differently: the controls sit in the two calf wearables, with no hose. To carry a Normatec 3, the 30-litre Normatec Backpack has a detachable padded case for the control unit, and the Normatec Carry Case holds the unit, hose, power supply and attachments.
Heat pads, electrostimulation and a foot spa do different jobs
A heat pad gives steady warmth. The Dreamland pads have 5 heat settings and machine-washable fabric or covers, and the Revive Me and Neck & Shoulder pads warm up in about 5 minutes. The Beurer EM 59 is a rechargeable electrostimulation unit with TENS, EMS, massage and 2 heat levels, 64 preset programmes plus 6 customisable ones, and 2 channels you adjust separately. The Beurer FB 35 foot spa has bubble and vibration massage, selected separately, an aroma filter and removable reflexology rollers.
Good to know
What is the difference between the Hypervolt 2 and the Hypervolt 2 Pro?
The Hypervolt 2 Pro has a stronger motor and more speeds: a brushless 90W motor and 5 speeds on a digital dial, against a 60W motor and 3 speeds on the Hypervolt 2. Both have QuietGlide technology, 5 heads in a pouch and Bluetooth to the Hyperice app for routines and automated speed control.
Do the Normatec Hip and Arm Attachments work on their own?
No. The Hip Attachment and the Arm Attachments need a Normatec control unit, which is not included, and they fit the Normatec 3, 2.0 and 2.0 Pro. If you have no unit yet, start with the Normatec 3 Legs: its control unit runs the legs first and the hip or arm attachments later.
Can I add heat to a Hypervolt I already own?
Yes, with the Hypervolt Heated Head Attachment, which is compatible with all Hypervolt models, including the Hypervolt 2 and 2 Pro. It has 3 heat levels of 43, 46 and 49 °C, set with one button. Its own battery lasts up to 75 minutes on the highest heat and charges by USB-C.
Which recovery products can I take on a flight?
The Hypervolt 2, Hypervolt 2 Pro, Vyper 3, Venom 2 Shoulder, Venom Go, Normatec 3 Legs and Normatec Lower Legs are each TSA approved for carry-on, according to their descriptions. The Normatec Backpack is TSA friendly and has a laptop compartment. Check your airline's rules for rechargeable batteries before you fly.
How long do the Venom Go pads last?
Each reusable adhesive pad is rated for up to 20 uses, and three come in the box with the pod and a USB-C cable. The magnetic pod moves from pad to pad, and its battery gives up to one hour of heat and vibration per charge.
