In short
For running, a GPS watch records pace, distance and heart rate, open-ear headphones play music while keeping you aware of your surroundings, and a fitness band tracks sleep and recovery between runs. The Garmin Forerunner watches run for 18 to 24 hours with GPS on, and earbuds such as the JBL Endurance Peak 4 hook over the ear.
Garmin Forerunner and Amazfit GPS watches that record pace, distance and heart rate on a run.
Compare screens and extras. The Forerunner 55 has a sunlight-readable MIP display; the Amazfit Cheetah and Forerunner 70, 170, 265S and 570 have AMOLED touchscreens. The 265S and 570 store music, and the 570 adds a speaker and microphone for calls.

Garmin Forerunner 570From the product descriptions and our guides.
The Forerunner 265S and 570 use multi-band GPS with SatIQ, which Garmin says keeps pace and distance accurate in cities and under trees. The Forerunner 55, 70 and 170 and the Amazfit Cheetah use GPS, GLONASS and Galileo. For race day, the 55 and 265S add PacePro pacing. Check wrist size too: the 265S fits wrists from 115 to 178 mm and the 570 from 135 to 205 mm. Our Garmin smartwatch guide covers the wider range.
Our wireless earbuds guide puts fit first: sealed in-ear buds give better bass and block noise, while open designs sit looser and let more outside sound in. The Shokz OpenMove and OpenRun use bone conduction on a titanium frame, the OpenRun Pro 2 combines bone and air conduction, and the JBL Sense Pro uses OpenSound air conduction on an adjustable split ear hook. Clip-on earbuds such as the Shokz OpenDots ONE also leave the ear canal open.
Our fitness tracker vs smartwatch guide sets out the split: a band is slimmer and lasts longer between charges, while a smartwatch adds apps, calls, payments and music. The Fitbit Inspire 3 and Charge 6 give a Daily Readiness Score, and the Galaxy Fit3 records sleep stages and a Sleep Score. The Charge 6 has built-in GPS; the Garmin CIRQA has no screen and uses connected GPS through your phone.
The Forerunner 265S Music and Forerunner 570 each store 8 GB of music from Spotify, Deezer or YouTube Music. The Forerunner 55 controls the music on a paired phone instead. With GPS and music both on, the 265S runs for up to 7.5 hours.
Days in smartwatch mode, hours with GPS on. The Forerunner 55 lasts up to 2 weeks, the Amazfit Cheetah up to 14 days with typical use and the Forerunner 570 up to 11 days. Battery saver stretches the Forerunner 70 to 28 days. With GPS on, the Forerunner 570 gives 18 hours and the 265S 24.
Yes, within their rating. The Garmin Forerunner watches, Garmin CIRQA and Amazfit Cheetah are rated 5 ATM, the Samsung Galaxy Fit3 5ATM and IP68, and the Fitbit Inspire 3 and Charge 6 are water resistant to 50 m. The JBL Endurance Peak 4 is rated IP68, and the Shokz OpenRun IP67 but not for swimming. The other headphones and earbuds are IP54 or IP55, for sweat and rain.
A few minutes gives hours of listening. Five minutes gives the OpenRun Pro 2 up to 2.5 hours of use, and ten minutes gives the OpenRun up to 1.5 hours and the OpenFit Air earbuds 2 hours. A full charge takes about 1 hour on the OpenRun Pro 2 and about 1.5 hours on the OpenRun.
Garmin's do: the Forerunner 55, 70, 170, 265S and 570 and the CIRQA band pair with iPhone and Android. The Samsung Galaxy Fit3 is different: it needs a Samsung Galaxy phone running Android 10 or later and a Samsung account, so it does not suit an iPhone.
