Bosch Series 4 60cm 4 Burner Gas-on-Glass Hob
A four-burner gas-on-glass hob in black tempered glass, frameless for a flush or slightly raised worktop fit, with 7.5 kW of gas power.
The PNP6B6K40 is Bosch's Series 4 built-in gas hob, laid out on a sheet of black tempered glass rather than steel or enamel. It suits a kitchen where the hob is part of the look of the worktop, with a frameless edge that can be fitted flush into the surface or sit slightly raised above it.
Underneath the glass is a full gas hob. Four burners give 7.5 kW in total, led by a 3 kW high-speed burner, with two 1.75 kW burners and a 1 kW economy burner. Semi-continuous cast iron pan supports carry the pans, and every burner has a flame failure safety device.
Ideal For
Black tempered glass gives a flat, dark surface with no surrounding frame, so the hob can be fitted flush into the worktop and read as part of it.
The ergonomic sword dials are mounted at the front of the hob, within easy reach and clear of the pans, igniting the burners when pushed and turned.
Four burners from 1 kW to 3 kW cover the range from a slow simmer to a rolling boil, with semi-continuous cast iron supports taking the weight of full pans.
Key Features
The surface is tempered glass in black, wiping flat between the burners and giving the hob a darker, more uniform look than a steel or enamel top.
With no surrounding frame, the hob can be installed flush with the worktop or slightly raised above it, depending on the finish the kitchen calls for.
A 3 kW burner handles fast boiling and wok work, joined by two 1.75 kW standard burners and a 1 kW economy burner for a 7.5 kW total.
Semi-continuous cast iron pan supports carry heavy pans on rubber feet and are suitable for the dishwasher, so the grid does not need scrubbing in place.
A flame failure safety device on all four burners cuts the gas supply if a flame is put out by a boil-over or a draught through the kitchen.
Pre-set for natural gas and supplied with an LPG nozzle set for conversion to bottled gas at 28-30/37 mbar where mains gas is not available.
Why gas on glass looks different
Most gas hobs announce themselves in stainless steel. This one is built on black tempered glass with no frame around the edge, so the surface reads as a dark panel set into the worktop with burners and pan supports above it. That matters in an open-plan room where the kitchen is on show from a sofa. It also changes the fitting options: frameless construction means the hob can be dropped in flush with the worktop or left slightly proud of it.
Four burners and how they work
The spread runs from 1 kW to 3 kW. The high-speed burner at 3 kW is for the jobs that need heat quickly, a full pan of water or a wok that has to stay hot when cold food goes in. Two 1.75 kW burners cover the everyday pans, and the 1 kW economy burner takes the low end for melting and holding. Total connected load is 7.5 kW. Ignition is integrated into the dials, so pushing and turning a control lights the burner without a separate switch.
Planning the worktop installation
The appliance measures 59 cm wide, 52 cm deep and 5.74 cm high, and drops into a niche of 4.5 x 56 x 48 to 49 cm. A worktop of at least 20 mm is required, rising to 30 mm for the flush installation, so the fitting style has to be decided before the worktop is cut. At 15.9 kg the glass hob is heavy, which is worth knowing when it is lifted into place. A 1 m power cord supplies the ignition.
How It Compares
| Kitchen Need | Bosch Technology | Practical Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen on show | Frameless black glass | A flat dark surface with no frame, fitted flush with the worktop or slightly raised above it |
| Fast boiling | 3 kW high-speed burner | Brings a full pan up to temperature quickly, within a 7.5 kW total across four burners |
| Gentle melting | 1 kW economy burner | A low burner for chocolate, butter and sauces that would catch over a larger flame |
| Cleaning after frying | Dishwasher-suitable pan supports | Semi-continuous cast iron supports lift out and go in the dishwasher rather than being scrubbed |
| Household safety | Flame failure devices | Every burner cuts its own gas supply if the flame is extinguished by a spill or draught |
| Bottled gas homes | LPG nozzle set included | Conversion nozzles for 28-30/37 mbar are supplied, so LPG use does not need extra parts |

The Verdict
Strengths
- Black tempered glass surface, frameless on all sides
- Flush or slightly raised worktop installation possible
- Four burners with 7.5 kW total gas power
- 3 kW high-speed burner for large pans
- Semi-continuous cast iron supports, dishwasher-suitable
- Flame failure safety device on all burners
- Front-mounted ergonomic sword dials with integrated ignition
Considerations
- Flush installation requires a worktop of at least 30 mm rather than the 20 mm minimum, so the fitting method must be decided before cutting.
- At 15.9 kg this glass hob is heavy to handle, and lifting it into the cut-out is realistically a job for two people.
- It needs a gas connection made by a qualified professional and a mains supply for the ignition through the 1 m cord fitted.
What's in the Box
- Gas hob x1
- LPG conversion nozzle set x1
- Installation/user manual x1
