Bosch Series 4 90cm Wall-Mounted Chimney Cooker Hood
A 90cm stainless steel chimney hood for Irish kitchens, moving up to 604 m³/h on intensive to clear steam and cooking smells from a wide hob.
The DWB96DM50B is Bosch's Series 4 wall-mounted chimney hood in a box design, finished in stainless steel and sized at 90 cm to sit above a wide hob or a range-style cooking area. It suits kitchens where the hood is on show, and where a 60 cm model would leave the outer rings uncovered.
Extraction is the point. Three speeds cover everyday cooking at up to 372 m³/h, and an intensive setting lifts that to 604 m³/h for the moments when a pan catches or a curry fills the room. Intensive reverts to the previous speed after six minutes, so it never runs on unnoticed.
Ideal For
At 90 cm across, the canopy covers a 90cm hob or a range cooker's full cooking surface, so steam rising from the outer burners is drawn up rather than left to spread.
The stainless steel box design is meant to be seen, with a chimney that adjusts between 63.5 and 96.5 cm in ducted installation to suit the ceiling height above.
Three washable aluminium cassettes go into the dishwasher when frying has taken its toll, and Touch Select controls with a display let you change speed with greasy hands.
Key Features
The intensive setting pulls 604 m³/h and steps back to the previous speed after six minutes, clearing a smoky moment without leaving the fan roaring.
Three normal stages cover simmering, frying and everything between, topped by intensive when needed, all set through Touch Select electronic controls with a clear display.
Two 1.5 W LEDs at 3500 K put 214 lux onto the hob, warm enough to judge colour in a pan and low-drain enough to leave on.
Three aluminium grease cassettes lift out for washing and are dishwasher-safe, which keeps maintenance to a tray of filters rather than a scrubbing job.
Run it ducted through a 150 mm outlet, with a 120 mm adapter enclosed, or recirculating with the Clean Air Plus kit at 337 m³/h normal.
Annual energy consumption is rated at 48.5 kWh with a B energy class, and the whole hood draws 220 W at its connection rating.
Why 90cm makes a difference
Steam and grease do not rise in a neat column. They billow, and they drift towards the front and sides of the hob, which is why a canopy narrower than the cooking area lets a share of it escape into the room. At 90 cm wide and 50 cm deep, this hood sits over the whole surface of a wide hob, catching what comes off the outer burners as well as the middle. The result is less condensation on windows and fewer cooking smells in the hall.
Ducted and recirculating options explained
Ducted is the stronger of the two: air leaves through a 150 mm outlet, with a 120 mm adapter enclosed for narrower runs, and reaches 372 m³/h on normal speeds and 604 m³/h on intensive. Where an external run is not possible, the Clean Air Plus kit lets the hood recirculate at 337 m³/h normal and 441 m³/h intensive, filtering the air and returning it to the kitchen. The kit is not supplied with the hood.
Fitting it above your hob
Plan the clearances before ordering. Bosch specifies a minimum of 550 mm between an electric hob and the underside of the hood, and 650 mm above gas, which sets how high the canopy sits on the wall. In ducted installation the overall height adjusts from 63.5 to 96.5 cm, so the chimney can be matched to standard and taller ceilings; recirculating installation extends that height to 107.5 cm. The hood measures 90 cm wide and 50 cm deep and weighs 12.8 kg.
How It Compares
| Kitchen Need | Bosch Technology | Practical Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Wide hob coverage | 90 cm canopy | Covers the full width of a 90cm hob, so steam from the outer burners is drawn up too |
| Heavy frying | 604 m³/h intensive | Clears smoke quickly, then drops back to the previous speed automatically after six minutes |
| No outside wall | Recirculation with Clean Air Plus | Filters and returns air to the kitchen at 337 m³/h, so ducting outdoors is not essential |
| Evening cooking | 214 lux LED lighting | Two 3500 K LEDs light the hob well enough to judge browning without switching on the room lights |
| Easy upkeep | 3 aluminium cassettes | Filters lift out and go in the dishwasher, so degreasing is a load rather than a chore |
| Running costs | 48.5 kWh a year | Rated B for energy, with a 220 W connection rating covering fan and lighting together |

The Verdict
Strengths
- 90 cm canopy suits wide hobs and range cookers
- 604 m³/h intensive extraction for heavy cooking
- Three speeds plus intensive with six-minute auto revert
- Touch Select electronic controls with a display
- Three dishwasher-safe aluminium grease cassettes
- Ducted or recirculating operation, 150 mm outlet
- Stainless steel box design, 12.8 kg net weight
Considerations
- Recirculating operation needs the Clean Air Plus kit, which is not supplied with the hood; only a 120 mm adapter is enclosed.
- At full intensive the hood reaches 70 dB(A), loud enough to talk over in an open-plan kitchen; normal speeds top out at 60 dB(A).
- It needs 90 cm of clear wall, a minimum 550 mm above an electric hob or 650 mm above gas, and secure wall fixing.
