In short
Breakfast starts with a kettle and a toaster, with a juicer or a waffle or toastie maker as extras. A 3000 W kettle such as the Ninja KT201UK boils a cup in under 50 seconds. On a four-slice toaster such as the De'Longhi Icona Capitals, each pair of slots has its own controls.
Rapid-boil 1.7 litre kettles, and Ninja kettles with set temperatures for tea and coffee.
The De'Longhi, Ninja, Morphy Richards and Smeg kettles all hold 1.7 litres, so compare features. The Ninja kettles add temperature presets and hold the water at temperature, and the Morphy Richards has a quiet boil.

Compare how each one juices. The Ninja JC151UK presses with a high-torque auger and the Philips Viva is a 150 W masticating juicer; the 800 W NutriBullet spins the produce at two speeds, and the Sage Nutri Juicer Cold Plus uses Cold Spin Technology.

From the product descriptions and our guides.
A standard kettle boils everything, and you wait for the water to cool. The Ninja KT201UK's presets give green tea and pour-over coffee the lower temperature they need without that wait. The Ninja KT200UK also lets you set the temperature by hand in 5°C steps from 40°C, and shows a live readout as it heats. For black tea a rapid-boil kettle such as the De'Longhi Argento Silva does the job; our kettle and toaster guide notes that a 3kW element boils fastest.
Our kettle and toaster guide suggests two slices for couples and four for families. On a four-slice toaster, check that each pair of slots works on its own: the De'Longhi Icona Capitals and Argento Silva and the Morphy Richards Cassini have separate controls for each pair, so one side can toast lighter than the other. A high-lift or extra-lift lever, as on the Kenwood Dusk and the Argento Silva, makes smaller slices easier to lift out, and a removable crumb tray keeps the worktop clean.
On a weekday morning the slow parts of juicing are the prep and the cleaning. A wide chute means less chopping: 88 mm on the Sage Nutri Juicer Cold Plus and 70 mm on the Philips Viva. On the Ninja JC151UK, two interchangeable pulp filters set how much pulp reaches the glass, and a 9-segment anti-clog filter tackles the clogging that cold press juicers are prone to. For cleaning, the Philips has a QuickClean design and dishwasher-safe parts, and the NutriBullet comes with a brush for the crevices where pulp gets trapped.
In hard-water areas scale coats a kettle's element, so it boils more slowly and more noisily, and tea can taste different. A removable limescale filter keeps scale out of the cup, and the De'Longhi, Smeg, Morphy Richards and Ninja KT200UK kettles have one that lifts out to rinse. The filter does not stop that build-up, so descale as well: our descaling guide says to boil a kettle descaler, or equal parts water and white vinegar, leave it to soak, then rinse and boil fresh water two or three times.
It heats water to a set temperature instead of always boiling. The Ninja KT200UK and KT201UK have six presets from 60 to 100°C. On the KT200UK, 60 to 90°C is for green, white and oolong tea, 95°C for cafetière coffee and 100°C for black tea. Both keep the water at temperature for up to 30 minutes.
From 700 ml to 2 litres. The Sage Nutri Juicer Cold Plus juices into a 2 litre jug, the Philips Viva into a 1 litre jug and the Ninja JC151UK into a 700 ml jug, with a separate 1.1 litre container on the Ninja that collects the pulp.
Ones with wide or long slots and a bagel setting. The Sage Toast Select Luxe has wider slots for artisan bread and thick bagels, and a bagel preset. The Ninja Foodi 3-in-1's long, wide slot fits artisan bread or two bagel halves, and the De'Longhi Icona Capitals has a bagel function and takes thick artisan bread.
Yes: the Ninja Foodi 3-in-1 is a slot toaster that flips down into a grill. Upright, it toasts with seven shade settings. Flipped flat, it grills, bakes with the included tray and presses paninis and toasties with the panini press accessory, and its crumb tray catches crumbs in both positions.
Use a waffle maker with an overflow channel. The Sage No Mess waffle maker has a circular moat that catches and cooks excess batter, so it stays off the worktop. A ready light tells you when to pour, and seven browning settings run from light and fluffy to golden and crisp.
