A graduation gift should suit what comes next: a light laptop for a commute or a master's, a phone or tablet that keeps getting updates, a smartwatch for training or health, or an e-reader. Samsung lists security updates for the Galaxy A27 until 31 July 2032, and the PocketBook Verse Lite's battery is rated for up to eight weeks.

From the product descriptions and our guides.
The next step decides the laptop
For a commute and hot-desking, a 13- or 14-inch screen keeps the laptop small: the MacBook Neo, or the ASUS Vivobook 14, which has an IR camera for Windows Hello sign-in and a privacy shutter. For a home desk, the 15.6-inch Galaxy Book4 adds a numeric keypad, an Ethernet port and HDMI for a second screen. For lectures on a lap or a sofa, the Vivobook Go 15's hinge lays flat to 180 degrees.
Update support shows how long a phone or tablet stays current
A first-job phone or a study tablet should stay secure for years. Samsung lists up to six generations of OS upgrades for the Galaxy A27, with security updates until 31 July 2032, and at least five years of OS updates for the Galaxy Tab A11+. The A27, Tab A11, Tab A11+ and Tab S10 FE each take a microSD card of up to 2 TB. Phones and tablets now carry an EU energy label with an A to G class, battery endurance per charge and in cycles, and a repairability class from A to E.

A runner and a health tracker want different watches
A runner gets most from the Garmin Forerunner 265S: multi-band GPS, training readiness and up to 24 hours of GPS tracking. For health data without daily charging, the Withings ScanWatch 2 records ECG, SpO2 and skin temperature. For outdoor life, the Instinct 3 adds an LED torch. The Garmin, Withings, Fitbit and Amazfit watches pair with an iPhone or an Android phone, while Samsung offers the Galaxy Watch9's Running Coach on compatible Android phones.
Where they read decides the e-reader
A 6-inch screen keeps the e-reader light for a commute or a flight: the PocketBook Verse Lite and Verse Pro Color both weigh under 185 g. The 7-inch Era Color and the 7.8-inch InkPad Color 3 show more of each page. For reading near water, the Verse Pro Color, Era Color and InkPad Color 3 are rated IPX8; the Verse Lite's specs give no water rating.
Good to know
Which laptop is lightest to carry to work or lectures?
The Apple MacBook Neo, at 1.23 kg. The ASUS Vivobook 14 is 1.46 kg, the Acer Aspire Lite 1.49 kg and the Galaxy Book4 1.55 kg, while the 15.6-inch HP and Vivobook Go 15 weigh 1.59 kg and 1.63 kg. The MacBook Neo comes with a USB-C cable, but its power adapter is sold separately.
Which tablet comes with a pen for handwritten notes?
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE: its S Pen is in the box. Handwriting Help can straighten lines and tidy the spacing of handwritten notes, and Solve Math works through supported handwritten equations. The tablet and the pen are both rated IP68 for water and dust.
Should I choose a colour or a black and white e-reader?
Choose colour for comics, magazines or illustrated books, and black and white for mostly novels. The PocketBook Verse Pro Color, Era Color and InkPad Color 3 use E Ink Kaleido 3, which shows text at 300 PPI and colour at 150 PPI. The black and white Verse Lite uses E Ink Carta and has 8 GB of storage.
Which smartwatch needs charging least often?
The Withings ScanWatch 2, rated for up to 35 days, and it recharges on a USB-C dock in about two hours. The Garmin Instinct 3 follows at up to 18 days in smartwatch mode, then the Forerunner 265S at 15 days and the Amazfit Balance at 14. The Fitbit Sense 2 lasts 6+ days and the Galaxy Watch9 up to 40 hours.
Can a laptop's memory be upgraded later?
It depends on the model, so check first. The ASUS Vivobook Go 15 has 8 GB on board and cannot be expanded. The Acer Aspire Lite ships with 8 GB and takes up to 16 GB. The Galaxy Book4's 8 GB is on board too, but it has two storage slots.
