In short
Robot vacuums such as the Shark Matrix Plus and eufy Omni E25 vacuum and mop on a schedule, with suction up to 20,000 Pa. The main choice is the base: one that empties the robot, or one that also washes and dries the mop. Wire-free robot lawn mowers from Ecovacs and eufy cover lawns of 600 to 1,200 m².
Robot vacuums
Robots that vacuum and mop, with or without a base that empties them for weeks at a time.
Decide how much emptying you want to do. The Shark Matrix Plus and UV Reveal bases hold up to 60 days of debris and the Dreame D20 Pro Plus bag up to 150. Suction runs from 4,000 Pa (eufy G50) to 20,000 Pa (Omni E25).

All-in-one stations
Robot vacuums whose station empties the dust, with a mop that is washed in the station or as the robot cleans.
Compare what the station does besides emptying the dust. The eufy Omni E25 and Ecovacs T80 OMNI stations wash the mop and dry it with hot air, the Dreame X50 Ultra dock self-cleans its mop, and the X9 PRO OMNI station empties the robot.

How to choose a robot vacuum or robot lawn mower
From the product descriptions and our guides.
Choose the base before you choose the robot
Without a self-emptying base, a robot's bin needs emptying after each run. A base moves the dust into a bag or bin that lasts weeks. The next step up also looks after the mop: the Shark ThermaCharged and UV Reveal bases wash the pad at 85°C, dry it at 80°C and refill the water, and the eufy Omni E25 station tops up detergent too. Then check navigation: laser, LiDAR or camera mapping builds a floor plan, so the robot knows where it has already cleaned.
Check the height and what it can climb
Measure the gap under the sofa and the height of your door saddles before you choose. The Dreame D20 Pro Plus is 96.9 mm tall and crosses thresholds up to 20 mm, and the Ecovacs T80 OMNI and X9 PRO OMNI are 98 mm high. The Dreame X50 Ultra climbs thresholds and transitions up to 60 mm in two steps, and its VersaLift sensor lowers so the robot can reach under low furniture.
Size a robot mower by lawn area, then check obstacle avoidance
Choose a mower rated for a little more than your lawn, as our robot lawnmower buying guide advises. Then look at obstacle avoidance, which the guide says stops a mower bumping toys, pets and flower beds: the Ecovacs GOAT O800 recognises more than 200 types of obstacle, and the eufy E15 uses a 3D perception system. The O800 runs at 57 dB and the E15 at 56 dB.
Plan for the parts a robot uses up
Our maintenance guide puts a dock's dust bag at 30 to 75 days, depending on use, and mop pads and side brushes at 3 to 6 months. A worn pad does less: once the microfibre matts down, it pushes dirt around instead of lifting it. The eufy accessories pack for the Omni E28 and E25 holds side brushes, roller brushes, filters and mops, so a spare set can wait in the press.
Good to know
Do robot vacuums mop as well?
Many do, in the same run. The Shark Matrix Plus, Dreame D20 Pro Plus and eufy G50 vacuum and mop, and the Ecovacs T80 OMNI and X9 PRO OMNI use a roller mop that washes itself as it cleans. A robot mop is for regular upkeep: it is generally not meant to replace a manual mop on heavily soiled floors.
Can I keep a robot vacuum out of some rooms?
Yes, with no-go zones in the app. The eufy Omni E25 sets No-Go zones in the eufy app, and the Shark Matrix Plus maps the home with AI Laser Navigation for room-by-room cleaning. Our robot vacuum guide lists virtual boundaries and room-by-room cleaning among the useful app features.
Can I start a robot vacuum by voice?
Some can. The Shark Matrix Plus works with voice assistants and the SharkClean app, the Dreame X50 Ultra takes app, remote or voice control, and the Dreame D20 Pro Plus supports third-party voice control over Wi-Fi. The eufy Omni E25 also works with Matter.
Can a robot vacuum replace my normal vacuum?
For daily floors, often yes; for stairs and sofas, no. A robot cleans the floors on a schedule, but it is not made for upholstery, stairs or the car. Many households run a robot for daily upkeep and keep a cordless or upright vacuum for deeper cleans.
How long does a robot lawn mower run on one charge?
Up to two hours on the eufy E15, which then recharges in 90 to 110 minutes. The E15 runs on a 2,600 mAh battery and the Ecovacs GOAT O800 on a 4,000 mAh one, and the GOAT O600 returns to its station by itself, so it is ready for the next session.
